FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Altron Announces Partnership with Western Governors University

Charleston, South Carolina – October 27, 2020 – Altron, WGU Labs, and the Student Opportunity Center (SOC) have partnered to study the impact of experiential learning at Western Governors University (WGU). Rather than relying on traditional classroom projects, students in the pilot course will exercise their business communication skills by completing real-world projects for partner companies.  Each student will receive detailed feedback from company leaders, as well as WGU instructors. “We are very excited to partner with Altron Inc to have WGU students complete these innovative projects. Altron has been an exemplary partner, showing their commitment to unique strategies that bring innovative new ideas and solutions to their growing client-base”, says Chris Freire, CEO of SOC.

Students in the Master of Science in Management and Leadership (MSML) program will select a project from a range of options offered by partner companies, including Altron, Inc. These experiential learning opportunities have been proven to improve career readiness and employment outcomes for many students. These projects, however, are not widely available to post-secondary students. By implementing and testing these learning activities in a real-world environment, Altron, WGU Labs, and SOC will gauge the value of these experiences for students and Altron, refine the pathway for future participants, and expand access to high-impact learning activities.

John Estrada, Altron’s President, stated: “We are very excited to be partnering with WGU. Students in this course will gain valuable information on the SBIR process and learn more about the different phases of SBIR’s and what it takes to win them. This process will not only help them but will certainly benefit us as well.”
